Dance

Facilitated by Dance Explorations, LLC All students registered in the winter / spring session will perform at an end-of-session showcase. This informal showcase allows parents to watch dances the children have worked hard on all session long! The Showcase will take place Friday, May 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. There are not any additional fees to participate.  All classes are taught at the Recreation Center.

Mommy, Teddy Bear and Me™ (ages 18 months-3 years)

Mommy, Teddy Bear and Me™ classes are a child’s first introduction to a structured dance and movement class. This 30-minute parent-participation class is designed as an interactive, play-time dance class, with a goal to introduce dance and movement to toddlers and preschool-aged children. Parents and caregivers will enjoy stretching, making noise, dancing and blowing bubbles with their little ones.

The class is designed based on the Dance to Learn!® curriculum, which is focused on the whole child and has been created around a child’s cognitive, language, social and motor development to form the 6 Methods of Dance™.

Day / time: Tuesday, 9:30-10 a.m.

Ballet / Tap Combo (ages 3-5)

Ballet / Tap Combo class is perfect for children who want to be soft and graceful, but also enjoy making a lot of noise! The Dance Exploration LLC Ballet / Tap Combo class follows the Dance to Learn!® Curriculum and is designed to teach the whole child through the 6 Methods of Dance™, which have been formed based on the stages of childhood development.

Like Pre-Ballet and Creative Dance, Ballet / Tap combo classes follow a themed class structure, which changes each month to keep class exciting. Dancers learn a ballet routine as well as a tap routine. Routines are based on the child’s ability and talent and designed to encourage artistic and technical growth. Children get to share their dances with parents at select parent observation days throughout the session. (Tap shoes are required.)

Day / time: Wednesday, 4-5 p.m.
Day / time: Saturday, 9-10 a.m.

Creative Dance (ages 3-5)

Parents are able to observe what their child has learned with several free observations and community performances throughout the session! Recommended attire includes anything the child and parent can move in, along with ballet slippers, socks or bare feet. Students are invited to participate in the Session Showcase.

Dancers will get to move to their favorite songs and have adventures, just like their favorite princesses!

Teddy Bear Hip Hop (ages 3-5)

Teddy Bear Hip Hop Dance™ is an introduction to the urban street styles of dancing known commonly as Hip Hop. What makes the class unique is in the execution of the deliverance of dance steps. Each move will be taught using a stuffed animal, like a teddy bear, or similar prop to easily teach break dance moves and other hip-hop genres. As classes progress dancers will be asked to perform dance moves that replicate a real life creature or event. The skills and movements taught will be age appropriate and test motor development as well as spatial awareness all part of the ‘Dance to Move!’™ Method. Each Teddy Bear Hip Hop Dance™ class will learn a combo or dance routine to be performed at the graduation.

Day / time: Tuesday, 4:30-5:15 p.m.
