John Anderson, Commander

Special Operations Division 

John has been a resident of Douglas County for nearly 59 years. He grew up on a cattle ranch south of Castle Rock and continues to raise cattle to this day. His career started as a patrol officer with the Castle Rock Police Department in April 1978. Over the course of the next 37 years, John was promoted through the ranks from corporal to sergeant overseeing the Patrol Division. In 1989, John served as Captain for 23 years as second in command. He has also served as the interim Chief of Police for the Town of Castle Rock and was selected as the Acting Chief in Elizabeth, Colorado for a short time. Under the direction of Chief of Police Jack Cauley, John was assigned to the Special Operations Division where he currently serves. 

John attended Camp George West Police Academy in Golden, Colorado and Northwestern University, Police Staff and Command. He is a member of the following organizations:    

·         FBI LEEDA

·         Colorado Chiefs of Police

·         International Association of Chiefs of Police


John has been very active in the community and has served on several boards, committees, and foundations; as well, he donates his time auctioneering for various charities and non-profits. Commander Anderson and his wife Lisa have three sons.
