Doug Ernst, Commander

Investigations Division 

Commander Ernst is a 32-year veteran of the Castle Rock Police Department currently assigned to oversee the Investigations Division. The division includes detectives, victim advocates, a crime analyst, and the evidence and property room technician. In addition, the division has several volunteers that assist investigations and the victim advocates. Additional duties of the division include organized retail crime, liquor code enforcement, and education and background checks.

Commander Ernst started his career in patrol and traffic, being promoted to sergeant, lieutenant, and then to commander in 2012. Commander Ernst held temporary assignments in a multi-jurisdictional drug task force. His first assignment was as an agent and then several years later he returned as the commander of the task force.

Commander Ernst has also served as the deputy SWAT commander and is our liaison for the Douglas County Impact Unit. Commander Ernst is a graduate of Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.
