Castlewood Ranch 1 Well Facility

AKA Lost Canyon Road - New Well Site
Project update: Sept. 5, 2018
New completion date projected to be October/November 2018

As Castle Rock Water continues to ensure a strong water future, plans are underway for new groundwater wells. Castle Rock Water is building a new municipal well facility and pipeline at the corner of Lantern Circle and Lost Canyon Ranch Road, east of Matney Park. These wells will enhance our water service and provide high-quality drinking water to our residents.

Project details

Due to weather, contract and other delays, some projects don’t finish within schedule. The original completion date was scheduled for August 2018. That date has now been extended to early November 2018.

Two groundwater wells are being built which extend into the underground aquifer. One of the wells will go more than 2,000 feet down. The geology of the area has provided some challenges which have significantly extended the timeline for this project. Both wells have been drilled, but construction continues to stabilize and pressurize the wells at which point well pumping equipment will be installed. The pipeline to connect the wells to the Founders Water Treatment Plant has been completed. However, the wellhead facility and pipe connection are still underway.

All construction will occur during daytime hours (7 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

The open space areas at the construction area, well facility and disc golf course will be restored and reseeded.
  • At the Disc Golf Course the baskets for holes 3, 4, 5, and 7 are located in the construction area. Hole No. 3 is currently closed. Holes 1 and 2 should be usable. Holes 6 and 8 should be playable, but the tee boxes will be located in the construction zone, and players will need to start outside the construction area. The tee boxes at those holes will be reconstructed once construction is complete. Holes 2 and 3 may eventually need to be relocated due to the location of the well facility.
  • A small section of the Mitchel Creek Trail underneath the power lines will be closed between East Manchester Drive and Mikelson Boulevard. (Designated in red on the map.) A rudimentary detour (yellow) will be provided. This detour may not be handicap accessible. However, all unaffected and accessible trails in the area are designated in green.
  • Several trail access points along the paved trail underneath the power lines have been closed during construction in order to ensure users' safety.
  • No roads will be closed. The pipeline will go under the roads through an existing line; thus, no road closures are scheduled. However, some sidewalks may be closed during construction.
Completion for the entire project, including site and trail restoration and revegetation, is scheduled for summer 2018.
