Hangman's Gulch and E. Plum Creek Trail improvements
Flood control and trail improvement projects often go hand-in-hand. That's why the Parks and Recreation Department and Castle Rock Water's Stormwater division have been working together near Hangman's Gulch Trail. Phase 3 of improvements along the trail from 1-25 to the confluence of East Plum Creek Trail are underway.
Improvements include expansion of the outfall structure at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing and an upsize of the culvert crossing on the East Plum Creek Trail. These improvements will help eliminate the flooding that can occur at the trail intersection.
Bids came back for the Town's review on Dec. 8. Of the 13 contractors who attended the pre-bid meeting in November, four provided bids and local contractor, HEI Civil was selected for the project.
HEI Civil is scheduled to begin work in February and finish in June. The west side of Hangman's Gulch Trail from I-25 to East Plum Creek Trail will be closed starting mid-February and will remain closed until the construction of adding drop structures is complete. The trail could be closed through mid-June in order to complete the contracted work.
The installation of a new culvert under East Plum Creek Trail is expected to start after the improvements along Hangman's Gulch are completed. The construction is currently estimated to start around May. A temporary detour through the vegetation and around construction will be necessary in order to keep the trail open during construction.
