Based on community feedback, Town Council selected Cobblestone Ranch as the next park development project. The 168-acre site is situated on the eastern edge of Castle Rock, located along Castle Oaks Drive to the south, Arabella Drive to the west, Cherry Creek Trail to the east and McMurdo Gulch to the north. This property was acquired to serve as a regional destination, much like Philip S. Miller Park.
Although developing the entire regional park was not included in the Town’s 2020 budget, a master plan was required to set the vision for the overall property and phase 1 development. The Town contracted with Norris Design to complete the master plan design.
Throughout 2020, staff sought additional public feedback on design elements to include in phase 1. Norris Design has since been incorporating public feedback into final planning and construction documents to set the park's design.
On May 18, 2021 Town Council approved the construction of Cobblestone Ranch Park – Phase 1 between the Town of Castle Rock and White Construction Group. Work commenced in summer 2021 with an expected completion date of summer 2022, weather depending.
The Town has set aside roughly $5 million to complete the first phase of this project. Approximately 12 acres will be developed to form the heart of the future regional park. Specifically, phase 1 includes:
Entry road off of Castle Oaks Drive
Three picnic pavilions
Large playground area serving 2 to 5-year-olds and 5 to 12-year-olds
