What Would Nancy Drew Do in the Quest for a Missing Family?
Researching family history is a lot like solving a Nancy Drew mystery. Join us for an overview showcasing examples and techniques that genealogists use every day as found in the original classic series primarily written by Ohio's own Mildred Wirt Benson. Although Nancy Drew is popular around the world having been published in over 45 countries in 30 languages, the focus of this lecture is on U.S. records; we’ll go on an adventure exploring old and new tools of the trade, library materials, court records, newspapers, gravestones, incorporating community history, and some very nontraditional resources. Ellen Kowitt is Vice President of the Colorado Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists, a past president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Colorado, and a member of the Indian Peaks Chapter NSDAR. She has been researching her own family history for 25 years and enjoys helping others as a mentor. Ellen lectures, publishes articles, and volunteers at the Colorado State Archives indexing naturalization and probate records.
