All signs point to safety – learn about Crystal Valley Parkway changes at open house Feb. 13

Crystal Valley Parkway

For the Town, public safety is a process that involves continual research and adaptation. With a growing population, it is important to keep up with the needs of residents. Road and traffic safety is one area the Town holds in high importance.

The Town’s Public Works Department recently studied speeds along Crystal Valley Parkway, between the new Fire Station 152 and Lake Gulch Road. The study showed a majority of people driving at safe speeds that are higher than the posted speed limit, due to the newly widened roadway. As a result, Public Works, in partnership with the Castle Rock Police Department, is implementing a speed limit change.

Attend an informational open house from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Fire Station 152, 485 Crystal Valley Parkway, for a chance to learn more about the upcoming changes and speak with the Town’s traffic engineers and police officers.

Changes will include:

  • Increasing the speed limit to 45 mph between Lake Gulch Road and Manobrier Circle, and between Plum Creek Boulevard and Wilcox Street/ East Frontage Road. The existing 35 mph speed limit will remain in place between Plum Creek Boulevard and Manobrier Circle due to limited sight distance for turning vehicles at Old Lanterns Parkway.
  • Installing a supplemental pedestrian crossing at Old Lanterns Parkway.

There are some myths that exist around how increasing the speed limit can impact actual speeds. Traffic experts will get the facts straight at the open house, or residents can visit CRgov.com/CVpkwychanges for more information.
