Seven projects whose outstanding design and construction meets the Town’s Vision 2030 Comprehensive Master Plan were recognized at the Oct. 1 Town Council meeting via the Town’s Design Awards program.
The vision identifies four cornerstones for the community. The first is Distinct Town Identity, with the intent to “ensure Castle Rock is recognized and rewarded as a unique and welcoming community distinguished by its vibrant and historic Downtown, small-town character, identity as the Douglas County seat, diverse and easily accessible recreation options, scenic natural environment and family friendly activities.” Town Council created the Design Awards program to publicly recognize outstanding building and site design consistent with the 2030 vision.
This is the 10th year for the awards program. These honorees received recognition:
Craig and Gould – Home at 21 South Lewis St. This neighborhood is representative of a time of exploration and settlement in the western states and it is the center of history and heritage in our community. The awards team found this residence to be creative construction that protects the character of the surrounding historic neighborhood. The placement and design of accessory structures and use of outdoor space enhances the overall experience and helps blend the residence with existing community character.
Downtown Project – Wild Blue Yonder, 519 Wilcox St. The awards team found this project represents an outstanding example of adaptation, using old and new architecture and reuse of existing indoor and outdoor space to create interest and attract visitors to Downtown.
Large Commercial – Personal warehouse, 2278 Manatt Court. The awards team found this project’s architecture and façade treatment creates interest through use of a varying color palette and mix of color uses. The combination provides a vibrant and active place for business and personal use. The project was one of the first of its kind in Town.
Mobility/Pedestrian Enhancement – Wolfensberger pedestrian bridge. The uniqueness and visibility of the bridge supports and metal structure attracts attention and is a landmark for those visiting Castle Rock. The awards team found the bridge provides good use of native materials on bridge supports and provides a safe and pleasing crossing between two major parks on the west side of Town.
Neighborhood Project/Enhancement – Taft House at 3570 Celestial Ave. in The Meadows. The awards team found the Taft House provides a great community amenity through building design and use of creative pool features and a climbing wall for family enjoyment.
Public Facility – Fire Station No. 152 in Crystal Valley Ranch. The awards team found the fire station exhibits interesting use of building materials, architectural design and site details that help to incorporate the facility into the Crystal Valley Ranch community.
Residential Design – Adamo Homes development, 4307 North Meadows Drive. The awards team found the builder provides potential buyers with modern compact living through use of a variety of material and movement in building elevation. The builder also provides material options to fit individual taste while creating a sense of uniformity within the varied architectural style.
