A park means so much more to a neighborhood than just providing playground equipment. It becomes a central gathering location and a place where memories are made within the community. That’s why the Town is now asking for the public’s help picking the next neighborhood park location.
Tell us what you think! Join the Parks and Recreation Department for one of two informational presentations. Come learn more about the site selection process, hear pros and cons about each location, and fill out a feedback form to voice your opinion.
Informational meetings will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21 and Wednesday, Aug. 30 at the Millhouse at Philip S. Miller Park.
The informational meeting will be an opportunity for residents to learn more about the research and analysis data for each potential park location. A formal presentation on each site will begin at 6 p.m. A question and answer period will follow. Light refreshments will also be provided.
Feedback forms will be available at each meeting, as well as online at CRgov.com/futureparks. Parks and Recreation will include the public’s feedback into a final recommendation for Town Council.
The department anticipates spending about $2 million on developing five to eight acres of parkland. It’s important to remember the funding source for new parks is different than the funding sources for renovation and maintenance of existing parks and recreational facilities. Funding for the new neighborhood park was generated by park impact fees, which by State Statue can only be used for parks and recreation needs attributed to growth.
The five sites under consideration are:

•Castlewood Ranch Tract L
•Cobblestone Ranch Tract L
•Crystal Valley South/Park School
•Meadows F18 Lot 2

These sites have been identified as being ready for development and are part of the 15 neighborhood parks referenced in the Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space Master Plan. The plan also outlines the policy goal of locating parks within walking distance of all residents.
The potential new park sites were identified by seven key criteria:
•Existing public recreation amenities
•Existing private recreation amenities
•Existing access to open space and trails
•Anticipated cost of development
•Recreation programming potential
•Current density/rate of growth
•Operational budget impact
