Town now accepting applications for nonprofits’ use of Outlets’ LED sign

When Town Council approved the Outlets at Castle Rock’s new LED sign, the Outlets agreed to allow the Town to promote local special events on the sign.

Interest from community groups wishing to access the sign grew to a point that it was necessary for the Town to adopt a policy on its usage. Town Council did so in April, and Town staff since has been working to finalize the details of the policy’s implementation.

The goal of the Town’s use of the Outlets’ LED is to inform the community about events, activities and programs that are of interest to the general public.

The Town now is accepting requests from nonprofit groups holding public events in Castle Rock in 2012 that wish to advertise those events via the sign. (Proof of nonprofit status must accompany the application. Requests for 2013 will open on Nov. 1.) Space on the sign is limited, and requests must be submitted a minimum of one month prior to the desired posting date at CRgov.com/OutletsLED or by calling 303-660-1365.

The Town will submit up to three slides per week for the Outlets’ LED. Requests will be honored first come, first served, and based on a Town Council-approved posting priority. Priority will be given first to the Town; second to the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Alliance, which both host significant community events in Castle Rock; and third to one-time nonprofit organization events held within Castle Rock. (Events are occurrences happening over a matter of a day or days. The sign is not a vehicle to advertise recurring events that happen weekly or monthly.) A calendar with deadline and availability is available on the above Web page.

The Town’s Community Relations Division will design all messages in accordance with the Outlets’ design guidelines and has the discretion to accept or reject requests. The Town’s agreement with the Outlets does not guarantee the Town the right to display any of the images submitted, which always are provided on an “as available” basis, subordinate to the needs of the Outlets. The agreement may be terminated at any time.

Prohibited uses include offsite commercial advertising; images that advertise any political campaign and/or religion; private and/or congratulatory messages; and/or messages for any event or organization that does not meet the criteria outlined in the Nonprofit organization requests section of the Town’s Outlets at Castle Rock LED sign usage policy. The policy is available at CRgov.com/OutletsLED or at Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St.

The Town will be installing its own LED sign at Town Hall this summer to enhance community communication. A separate usage policy and process will be established for that sign. Additional information will be communicated when it is available.
