The Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department has an exciting and intriguing program for teenagers between the ages of 14 and 20. The Fire Explorer Program provides participants with direction, encourages youth to go beyond high school education, teaches leadership skills, and forms new friendships. This program runs year round and requires 80% participation attendance.
Members learn basic training in fire suppression and emergency medical services. A one-week Explorer fire academy is held at some point throughout the year, based on needs at that time. Once the academy is completed, and the Explorer has met the requirements, they are granted the opportunity to be an observer and run actual 911 calls with the Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department firefighters.
Many who join the program move on to college or pursue other careers, whereas other members feel like they have found their calling and become firefighters.
Teenagers must have the following requirements to apply:
Students do not have to live within the Town of Castle Rock to participate.
