The Department's Parks Maintenance division is currently located at the Castle Rock Service Center on Castleton Drive, having shared space with the Public Works Department for nearly 20 years. Personnel growth and an increase in equipment requirements have created the need for additional space. The planned 13,000-square-foot building will host the Town’s Parks Maintenance and Facilities divisions, located at the end of Caprice Drive near the former wastewater treatment plant. Building plans include five maintenance bays, indoor storage, a training facility, office space, a break room and a storage yard for equipment and material. Parks and Facility staff anticipate moving into the new space in 2019.
In December, Parks Planning and Construction Manager, Brian Peterson, continued to work with the project architect, HB&A, and their sub-consultants on completing the drawings for the facility. The drawings were submitted to Development Services the week of Jan. 5. Once the drawings were reviewed, staff initiated the bidding process. On April 3, Town Council unanimously approved a construction contract for the future Central Service Center with GH Phipps Construction Companies.
Additional work was coordinated with Castle Rock Water and Public Works departments to remove structures and concrete rubble, and to build a new access road to relocate the Douglas County slash mulch program to another location on site. Adjacent businesses were contacted in preparation of the future work that will soon take place.
