Valuation Data

The Town of Castle Rock utilizes the most recently published International Code Council (ICC) Building Valuation Data table as a footer / estimation tool for the value for new buildings in Castle Rock. The valuation of a building permit is the actual cost of real property work. The data table is provided as a tool and your actual cost of work may be more or less than what is published by ICC. Please remember taxes and fees based on valuation are due on the total final cost of the project. A reconciliation should be performed at the close of your permit to ensure appropriate fees have been paid.

Development Impact

Development Impact Fees are incurred on all new construction in the Town of Castle Rock. These fees allow the Town to continue to provide needed infrastructure to maintain service levels as new construction occurs. They are based on each individual project's estimated incremental cost to expand the system to accommodate that individual project's growth.

System Development Fees

System Development Fees are incurred on all new construction in the Town of Castle Rock. These fees go toward the cost for new development to tie into the Town's infrastructure systems such as water and sewer. They are based on each individual project's incremental cost to expand the system to accommodate that individual project's growth.

Use Tax

Use tax is imposed on construction materials that are utilized in the construction of real property. The use tax is due on the material portion of a project. Once use tax has been paid on your permit you should present the receipt when purchasing materials as Castle Rock has already collected the Municipal (Castle Rock - 4%), and County (Douglas - 1%) portions of the tax. Always keep track of all material purchases for your building permit and retain receipts to verify that sufficient sales/use tax has been paid.
