Hybrid Meeting - 6:00 PM, Wednesday, May 31, 2023 

You are invited to attend the first neighborhood meeting to discuss a proposed adolescent residential mental health facility to be located at 864 Barranca Drive, Castle Rock, CO 80104. This is a hybrid meeting. The proposed use requires an amendment to the Metzler Ranch Planned Development Plan and Zoning Regulations, 4th Amendment. The purpose of this meeting is for the applicant to share information about the proposal, take feedback, and answer any questions you might have.


This is the first of a minimum of three neighborhood meetings that will be held. A Planned Development Amendment requires public hearings before the Planning Commission and the Town Council. The future neighborhood meetings and the public hearing dates have not yet been determined. Once the public hearings are scheduled, information will be posted on the Public Notices calendar ( on the Town’s website, should you like to attend:

Project description

Sandstone Care is interested in purchasing the former memory care facility located at 864 Barranca Drive, Castle Rock, CO 80104.   The current zoning on the property allows a nursing home facility and elder assisted care living facility. In order to operate the proposed adolescent residential mental health facility, the Planned Development Zoning regulations must be amended to include the new use. No changes to the exterior of building are being proposed.


Sandstone desires to establish a group care home environment serving adolescents suffering from mild to moderate mental health symptoms. These adolescents’ lack of symptom severity makes them ineligible for acute psychiatric treatment at hospitals and other higher level treatment settings. Therefore, the services would reach a population that is currently underserved, with rising prevalence of incidence and acuity across the country.

  • The meeting will begin with the applicant giving a presentation on the proposed project.
  • Opportunity for questions and answers will be available after the presentation. All participants who wish to speak will be given the opportunity to do so.
  • All virtual participants may automatically have their video/audio turned off upon entry to the meeting. Instructions will be given during the meeting on how to participate.

  • Questions or comments will be accepted throughout the review process.
