Council defines future of transportation with approval of updated master plan

Community surveys show transportation is a top priority for residents. It is for Town Council, too, and on Tuesday, Councilmembers approved a plan to take Castle Rock’s transportation system into the future.

The Transportation Master Plan specifically visualizes all aspects of transportation for Castle Rock, including roadways, bicycle routes, pedestrian links, transit, carpooling and more. The updated plan looks ahead to 2040.

With Council approval, the plan becomes an official guide for Town projects and planning. Specifically, Town experts will reference the plan when developing the Town’s five-year Capital Improvement Program, building the annual budget and when determining requirements for developers. It’s important to remember available funding is always a consideration when planning large capital projects.

Since fall 2016, the Town has been gathering feedback and conducting research and analysis to update the plan. Many of the items on the public’s transportation wish list were already on the Town’s radar – projects like the Crystal Valley Interchange, traffic signal installations and additional bike lanes.

The updated plan includes those projects. It also identifies a future concern with State Highways 85 and 86 (Founders/Meadows Parkway) and recommends an interchange with Interstate 25 near Black Feather Drive as a possible solution to explore. Partnerships with CDOT such as Bustang, along with additional studies on transit and Downtown mobility are also recommended in the plan.
