Outdoor amenities make Castle Rock a great place to call home and maintaining that level of service is a priority for the Town’s Park and Recreation Department. The Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan helps the department look ahead to future goals. As the department works to update the plan for the next five years, residents have the opportunity to weigh in.
The plan sets the vision for parks, trails, open spaces and recreational projects for the next five years, and also identifies funding opportunities and constraints. When first established in 1977, the Parks and Recreation Department served a population of 2,000 people. Now, through careful planning, the community enjoys 87 miles of trails, 50 parks, and more than 6,000 acres of open space. Read about the department’s priorities for the coming years, and submit feedback before the plan is finalized.
The five-year plan outlines several potential projects – two new neighborhood parks including one in Cobblestone Ranch; improvements to several existing parks; continued trail connectivity through Town; and a possible new indoor recreation facility. The department would also continue to dedicate funding for recreation opportunities at Rueter-Hess Reservoir.
“We are fully committed to providing quality services to the community,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Brauer. “While that means different things to different people, Castle Rock is so much more than a Town. It’s a community where people want their children to be able to play at the neighborhood park, sign up for the summer baseball league, or attend wonderful events on the weekend. Helping make the community a home is what moves us to do more.”
In addition to parks, open space and trails, the Parks and Recreation Department consists of 55 full-time employees, nearly 500 seasonal employees, a robust volunteer program, two indoor recreational facilities, a championship golf course, a state-licensed preschool and more.
