Residents continue to view Castle Rock as a high-quality community, although they continue to have concerns about items related to the Town’s growth, the Town’s 2021 resident survey revealed.

Some key findings:

  • The survey covered 49 performance measures, and all of those received a rating of 5 or higher on a 0-10 scale
    • 36 of the measures could be compared to the 2019 survey. Seven of those showed improvement, and one decreased (28 maintained similar satisfaction levels)
  • Like in surveys completed in 2015, 2017 and 2019, nine out of 10 respondents in 2021 said that the overall quality of life in Castle Rock exceeds their expectations, with significantly more saying the quality “greatly exceeds” their expectations this year than in 2019
    • Four out of five respondents said the quality of Town services exceed their expectations, and nine of out 10 said Castle Rock is a better place to live than other communities; these ratings are consistent with the Town’s performance in past surveys
  • 2021 ratings regarding the direction the Town is headed showed improvement from 2019, with a significant shift from those answering “wrong direction” to the more positive categories of “neutral,” “right direction” and “strongly right direction”
    • 72% of respondents said they believed they are getting their money’s worth for their tax dollars, which is another positive indicator

Along with these results, which affirm that Castle Rock remains a high-quality community in residents’ view, there are some areas the survey indicates need attention:

  • When asked about the most important issue facing the Town over the next five years, 68% of residents answered with a growth-related item; Town staff and Town Council are evaluating possible responses to these concerns
  • There was a significant decline in perceptions of how the Town is doing at keeping residents informed about water-related services and projects; staff will explore ways to step up efforts in this area

To reach the desired statistical confidence, the survey needed 400 responses; 751 residents responded to the survey in February and March after being randomly selected to participate. All residents were then invited to participate in a subsequent open survey.

A report containing results from the scientific and open surveys, as well as from a survey of Town-licensed businesses, is online at CRgov.com/2021survey.
