Where the fun is as full as the moon! Grab your bike, helmet and a few decorations to light up the night at the Town’s annual Pedal the Moon bike ride Friday, July 23.
The family ride will depart from Castle View High School, 5254 N. Meadows Drive, at 7 p.m. Or, leave from Douglas County High School, 2842 Front St., shortly thereafter. Under the light of the moon, riders will follow East Plum Creek Trail to Festival Park. Please keep in mind this is approximately a 6-mile bike ride. However, the course is mostly-flat terrain and suitable for riders of all ages.
Cyclists are encouraged to participate in the festive spirit by decorating their bikes with lights and other decorations. There will be a decorating station at the t-section of Hangman’s Gulch and East Plum Creek trails were riders from both the Castle View and Douglas County groups will meet up and get creative. Additionally, all participants must wear a helmet and have a front headlamp and blinking rear light.
Following the ride, there will be hot dogs at Festival Park hosted by the Boy Scouts of America and telescopes set up by the International Dark-Sky Association. After the festivities families are encouraged to ride back to Douglas County or Castle View High School. Interested in a one-way trip? Make arrangements to leave a car or be picked up at Festival Park.
Before the event, registration is $18 for adults and $14 for children under 12. On the day of the event, the fee increases to $20 for adults and $16 for children. The registration fee includes a T-shirt, hot dog, chips and a drink.
