[ARCHIVED] Application withdrawn for convenience store/fueling station on Crystal Valley Parkway

News

Convenience store chain Kum & Go has withdrawn its application to rezone property at the southwest corner of Crystal Valley Parkway and Plum Creek Boulevard to allow them to construct a fueling station and convenience store there.

“Over the past several months, we have carefully reviewed and taken into consideration feedback from the surrounding community,” a representative of the chain wrote last week in a letter to the Town. “While we believe we could have mitigated many of the concerns expressed by residents, we felt it was important to respect their strong desire not to have a fueling station at this location.”

Kum & Go had submitted the application and held two Town-required neighborhood meetings in 2021. Dozens of residents participated in the meetings to share their concerns regarding the proposed rezoning.

“We’re thankful that the residents in this area so actively participated in the Town’s development process,” said Mayor Jason Gray. “The Town heard you, and more importantly, Kum & Go heard you and has abandoned its efforts to pursue a store on Crystal Valley Parkway.”

A Colorado-based company owns the property in question, for which the currently permitted uses include retail sales and service, grocery, drugstore, convenience goods, personal service shops, restaurants fast food with a drive-thru, banks, offices, medical/dental, insurance and related services. The current permitted uses do not include a gas station, which is why Kum & Go had proposed a rezoning.

“I’m proud to have helped many residents of District 6 achieve what they think is the best outcome for their neighborhood on this item,” said Town Councilmember Tim Dietz, who represents the area.

Kum & Go stated in its letter that it is eager to serve Castle Rock and will be seeking “more appropriate locations” from which to do so. The chain presently has a store under construction at the northwest corner of Meadows Parkway and Lombard Street, which will be its first location in Town. The Iowa-based company operates more than 400 locations, primarily in the Midwest.
