A man is in custody following a fatal stabbing that occurred behind a commercial building in Castle Rock.
On Sunday, July 17, shortly after 9:30 p.m., the Castle Rock Police Department received a 911 call about a stabbing that was occurring near the intersection of E. Allen Street and Alexander Place. Officers quickly arrived on scene and were able to locate the suspect near the scene of the incident and he was taken into custody at that time. He has since been identified as 22-year-old Jason Menton.
At this time, police do not believe the victim and Menton were known to each other. The motive for the attack is still under investigation.
The formal filing of charges will be determined by the District Attorney’s Office of the 18th Judicial District. The victim’s identity will be released by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office.
This remains an active and on-going investigation. No additional information will be released at this time.
