[ARCHIVED] Town flips the switch on traffic light improvements across major roadway intersections

Intersection traffic signal timing upgrades are being implemented that are expected to improve travel efficiency, minimize delays and keep you moving throughout Castle Rock.

Last week, the Town implemented a traffic signal timing improvement program for 18 signals on major roadways in Castle Rock, including Plum Creek Parkway, Wolfensberger Road and Wilcox and Fifth streets.

The Town’s new Automatic Traffic Signal Performance Measures tool now allows the Public Works Department to use performance metrics and make real-time signal improvements. This means that the team can address concerns more quickly by retiming and optimizing a signal’s green time as needed.

The traffic signal timing project is expected to help alleviate traffic congestion during peak periods. Motorists traveling the improved corridors should experience reduced wait times at red lights while minimal traffic is present on sidestreets.

Although the project is ultimately expected to improve commute times, residents may notice differences, such as changes to the amount of green time on some side streets. The team appreciates your patience as they actively observe the new program and make adjustments. Residents should notice day-to-day incremental improvements with signal timing. Once this initial rollout is complete, Public Works plans to implement signal timing improvements to all intersections Townwide.

The Town has also been working with the Colorado Department of Transportation to implement more traffic signal improvements on Meadows and Founders parkways. These improvements are expected by year-end.

To report concerns and observations on the new traffic control system, residents should email Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering Manager Jacob Vargish or call 303-814-6415.
