[ARCHIVED] Win a $9,000 front yard makeover in Castle Rock Water’s ColoradoScape Contest

ColoradoScape Contest does your lawn suck? Water, that is. CRconserve.com/Contest

Did you know that more than half of household water use typically goes toward outdoor irrigation and landscape? Castle Rock Water is encouraging residents to transform their lawns into water-wise ColoradoScapes, and the department is ready to help. If your front yard sucks — water, that is — enter to win a free ColoradoScape front yard makeover worth $9,000.

Most turf lawns are Kentucky bluegrass, which is not native to Castle Rock’s high altitude, semi-arid environment. In fact, the community pours more than 1.3 billion gallons of water on non-native, grass-dense yards each summer. While having a healthy yard is important, beautiful and water-wise options exist beyond green grass, and that’s what ColoradoScape is all about.

ColoradoScape is a landscape design that incorporates low- to very-low-water-use plant material, like columbine, penstemon and pine, and blends in with the native Castle Rock landscape. This landscaping utilizes a combination of materials that provide a variety of vibrant colors, textures, sizes, shapes and seasonal interest.

On average, customers who replace turf lawns with a low-water option see between 16% and 28% water savings — are you ready to make the transition? Enter the ColoradoScape contest by creating an entertaining 30- to 60-second video about conserving water in the landscape and why your lawn sucks. Then, submit it to us between April 1 and April 30, and share it on social media for an opportunity to win.

Video entries will be accepted at CRconserve.com/Contest through Sunday, April 30. Five finalists will be chosen, and the community will vote for its favorite video on the Town’s Facebook page. The winner will be notified in May, with installation set for this summer. The other finalists will receive a complimentary Garden In A Box water-wise garden kit.

All entrants must be Castle Rock Water residential customers and at least 18 or older. For contest details, tips, frequently asked questions and previous winners’ front yard transformations, visit CRconserve.com/Contest.
