[ARCHIVED] Keeping land-use decisions local is important to the Town

Homeowner Alert: Keep land use local ... take action today!

A Colorado Senate bill that would drastically alter the Town's ability to regulate land uses within Castle Rock is one step closer to becoming law. Senate Bill 213 ( passed its initial committee Tuesday and is expected to be heard tomorrow, Friday, April 21, in the Senate's Appropriations Committee.

While the bill has been amended, it continues to impose housing density onto communities that do not want density, and it does not allow municipalities to respond to parking concerns and other demands that density creates.

Town Council remains opposed to the bill and encourages residents to share their opposition with State representatives — particularly those on the Senate Appropriations Committee ( A suggested message to share:

I urge you to vote no on Senate Bill 213. Please do not force Statewide mandates on local land-use matters. Local residents and representatives — not State legislators and regulators — should be able to decide what’s right for our community. Please reject this overreaching legislation to ensure a high quality of life and sound economic environment continue within Castle Rock. Thank you.
