Town aims to keep Castle Rock beautiful by reducing sign pollution
The Town of Castle Rock is committed to sustaining a high quality of life as a family friendly and safe community. To help foster a sense of pride and to keep our community beautiful, the Town will begin weekend enforcement of our sign code.
Beginning Saturday, May 13, enforcement of Town Municipal Code 19.04.042.J will include weekends. The sign code prohibits signs in the public right of way and on Town public property, including parks and trails. Any sign placed in the public right of way will be removed and discarded.
Public right of way is property owned, leased or controlled by a government entity. Picture a public street, plus some of the space adjacent to it, including areas around the street, medians, light poles and street signs — that is typically the public right of way. The width of the right of way is not limited to the paved portion of the street, is not always readily identifiable and is not uniform nor consistent throughout Town.
Prohibited signs include, but are not limited to, those used to advertise an open house, garage sale or lost pet and business advertising. As an alternative, residents are encouraged to use methods such as community bulletin boards, Nextdoor and community Facebook pages.
To report illegal signs in the public right of way, visit CRgov.com/Concern and submit an online report, see Issue Type 44 — Illegal sign in the public ROW. Each report will be addressed and signs that are in violation will be collected as soon as possible.
