A development that will bring 174 senior living units to The Meadows was approved at Town Council’s Aug. 15 meeting.
Here is a closer look:
Senior housing project — Council approved a four-story, 174-unit, age-restricted senior housing project south of the intersection of Meadows Parkway and Regent Street, just east of the AMC Castle Rock 12. The project will offer studio and one- and two-bedroom units.
The 17.36-acre plot has been zoned for such a use since 2003. The primary access to the area will be at Regent Street, where a new traffic signal will soon be installed. A secondary entrance at Lombard Street would allow limited access to the property.
The zoning requires 179 on-site parking spaces, and 262 spaces are planned with the project. Additional on-site amenities will include theater and game rooms, a fitness center and indoor pool, a workshop and a community garden.
As part of the project, the developer will relocate the existing East Plum Creek Trail parking lot within the same general area.
Also on the agenda, Council presented a proclamation to the Douglas Land Conservancy honoring its 35th anniversary and the decades-worth of efforts the nationally accredited, nonprofit land trust has offered local residents and regional partners to protect and conserve the national character, habitats, ecosystems and open space of Douglas County and areas along the Colorado Front Range.
Not on the agenda but raised during the Council Comments portion of the meeting were two items that received unanimous Council support:
- A motion to place the issue of Town Code, State laws and related Town policies governing the issue of public nudity, public indecency and indecent/obscene exposure in public places for discussion on Council’s Sept. 19 meeting agenda. This motion followed several meetings where public feedback was provided on this issue.
- A motion to strongly encourage the Douglas County Libraries Board of Trustees to retain the Philip S. Miller name in the name of the new Castle Rock library, which will open later this month. The library board is expected to discuss this item at a meeting on Sept. 27.
Miller, a local banker and philanthropist, contributed significantly to the library and other local causes during his lifetime, and those contributions continue through his charitable trust. Public feedback on this issue can be shared by email to BobP@dcl.org.
