[ARCHIVED] Castle Rock Fire and Rescue partners with new Domino’s location and NFPA to promote fire prevention

CRFD firefighter tests a smoke alarm. Your working smoke alarms could get you free pizza!

Your working smoke alarms could get you free pizza! Annually, the National Fire Protection Association works with Domino's nationally during Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 8 to Oct. 14. This year’s theme is “Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention.”

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, between 5 and 6 p.m., anyone who places a delivery order from the new Crystal Valley Domino’s location, 484 Crystal Valley Parkway, could be randomly selected to have their order delivered by a Domino’s driver and Castle Rock Fire and Rescue. Orders must be within the store’s delivery area to be eligible. Two lucky homes will be chosen.

If your order is selected, CRFD firefighters will ask to come into your home and test the smoke alarms through an optional safety check. If the smoke alarms are working, your pizza order is free. If they are not working, firefighters will provide batteries or a new, fully functioning alarm at no cost.

Smoke alarms save lives. CRFD encourages residents to regularly test and check the age of the alarms in their homes. According to the NFPA, the risk of dying in a reported home structure fire is 55% lower in homes with working smoke alarms than in homes with no alarms or none that worked.

If your smoke alarm chirps or beeps, it may mean that it is time for some new batteries or you might need to install a new unit. Every smoke alarm is different, so check the back of your device to find out more about the sound’s meaning. No matter what, CRFD encourages you to change your batteries every six months.

To learn more about checking the age of your smoke alarms and replacing old devices, go to CRgov.com/SmokeAlarms. Who knows, this Tuesday’s family pizza night could be free!
