May 17 Town Council preview

Proposed sports-development center tops Town Council’s May 17 meeting agenda

A potential sports-development center as part of the proposed mixed-use development at the site of the former Acme Brick facility on Prairie Hawk Drive will be a topic on Town Council’s May 17 meeting agenda. View the full agenda online.

Here is a closer look:

  • Potential sports-development center – The Town operates the successful Castle Rock Recreation Center and Miller Activity Complex as indoor recreation amenities. Growth has created demand for a third indoor recreation facility in the near term.
Funding for such amenities comes from growth-related Parks and Recreation impact fees, but finding a location to house such a facility is a challenge. So, the Town put out a request for proposals to seek potential partners and received one response.

The firm that’s proposing a mixed-use development at the former Acme Brick facility on Prairie Hawk Drive wants to provide land, financing and construction services to build the Town a sports-development center with aquatic, gymnasium and fitness facilities.

Town Council will hear from Town staff and the proposing firm, Confluence Companies, at its meeting Tuesday ahead of a June 14 open house that’s planned to gather public feedback on this potential project. Council is expected to provide initial feedback regarding the proposal on Tuesday, and public comment is welcome.
