Some time ago I read where the town administration was creating a truck routing system requiring large trucks to use only certain streets or roads.

I continue to see large tractor trailer semis and mobile pre-mix concrete trucks using Gilbert Street which was one the the streets that was supposed to restrict those types of vehicles. What happened to that plan?

Through an ordinance approved by Town Council in October 2022, the Town created a truck route program to help reduce cut-through freight traffic in residential areas.

Although the comprehensive truck route program began last October, the routes will not be official until signage is installed along the roadside. The project team is currently in the process of installing these signs this spring. Signs are currently being installed within right of way owned by the Town. We are also finalizing the approval process with the Colorado Department of Transportation to install signs within their right of way. We anticipate all signs will be installed by May 2023. Once installed, the Town’s designated truck route will commence.

The Town’s designated truck route program applies to freight and cut-through traffic only. Trucks with destinations away from the routes will be able to deviate from the approved routes to complete deliveries. Overall, this ordinance is expected to lessen the trucks on Gilbert Street, but will not completely remove them.
